During her advent on MTV's Making the Video, P!nk discussed the rail:

" It's basically about feeling inadequate, and wanting to get away from yourself. [...] It'due south somewhat autobiographical, for the most office, definitely. In class, I was definitely always getting into problem—I had 63 hours of overdue detentions when I left school that I'll never have to serve! [...] To me, any truth is good, whether it hurts or not, then me looking in the mirror, standing side by side to what most people would telephone call 'perfect girl,' I accept those feelings. I call up every girl does, and it'southward important for girls to do that, yes, I'm upwards here. I'yard doing my thing. I'g a strong private and I've gained that strength over the years, simply I'm still up in the mirror and try to pat my hips in.[ane] "

The song specifically references P!nk's disharmonize with her record label, who wanted her to modify her image to create a more mainstream appeal, and mentions both LA Reid (head of P!nk'due south record label, Arista Records, at the time) and Britney Spears. In regards to the lyrics, "I'g tired of being compared to damn Britney Spears; she'south so pretty, that simply ain't me," P!nk stated that, "I don't desire to go my indicate misconstrued. It'south more well-nigh the record company than it is about Britney Spears. Reid later denied there existence whatsoever truth to the lyrics implying that he had asked P!nk to change who she was to be successful: "She was poking fun at me, [but] I call back she does show a betoken hither. You can exist a popstar and accept a brain, and have some creativity, and have some depth, and accept some feelings, and not be afraid to blank those feelings."[2]

Never win first place,

Teachers dated me

'Cause I can't do nothin' correct

Every twenty-four hour period I fight a war confronting the mirror,
I tin can't take the person starin' back at me.

I'm a hazard to myself
Don't let me get me
I'chiliad my ain worst enemy
It'south bad when you annoy yourself
So irritating
Don't wanna be my friend no more,
I wanna be somebody else
I wanna be somebody else, yep

50.A. told me,
"You'll be a pop star.
All you have to change
Is everything y'all are"

Tired of being compared
To damn Britney Spears
She's so pretty,
That simply own't me

So doctor, doctor won't you please prescribe me somethin'?
A day in the life of someone else

'Cause I'm a hazard to myself
