Learn How to Draw A Wolf Using Pen And Pencil

Have you ever wondered how to draw a wolf in pencils and pen? Well in this art tutorial you can watch with ease at your own pace as the artist confidently demonstrates how drawing the likes of fur and facial features isnt as hard as what you might think.

The basic outlines of the wolf have already been drawn out by the artist before the art demonstration begins and the first step which is undertaken is some fine linear hatching with the pencil around the nose and mouth of the wolf to add some early tonal value to the pencil drawing. This cross hatch method which is commonly used by sketch artists and ascertains layers of tone quickly and precisely to bring immediate depth to a pencil drawing.

You can see that all the key features are drawn in proportion and are now ready for the next stage of the sketch which is the introduction of a fine line illustrators pen. The pen which the artist has selected to use is a gel ink pen which allows a very smooth application as is especially good for working over pencil work within drawings. The pen has a very fine tip which is ideal when you are drawing intricate details like strands of hair and the reflections within an eye. The pen is also smear and smudge resistant through its quick drying ink.

The artist tackles the eyes by gradually filling in the obvious dark areas fully before proceeding with the same hatching method which was used with the pencil in the earlier stages. He works evenly throughout the drawing capturing all the features of the wolf down to the fine lines which he uses to draw the whiskers. It is fair to say that the drawing takes on a very illustrative appearance with the way the lines have been drawn using the pen and the crisp edges which they form. Using an eraser he rubs away all of the under drawing to leave no remains of the initial soft pencil used in the early stages of the sketching process.

Just when it looks like he has finished the artist comes in with a burnt sienna coloring crayon to add carefully placed areas of color to the ears and nose region to emphasise the wolf. Through the use of a complimentary blue coloring crayon the background is hatched in to bring the wolf closer to the foreground and additional blue crayon is brought into the wolfs eyes to tie the background in with it. This adds a real sense of unison and containment to the drawing leaving you with a fantastic example of how to sketch a wolf. The art tutorial is just the right speed for you to pause and play at your own leisure to allow you to follow step by step the order in which the wolf was drawn. I hope you enjoy the art demonstration.

I have studied art for most of my life and would easily say that it was my number one passion. I appreciate everything surrounding art but I gear most of my efforts towards anatomy and the human form. I believe there is nothing more beautiful and rewarding than being creative to produce art which does the human figure justice.
